Rodney Pol, Jr. is Of Counsel in the firm’s municipal, education, and litigation practice groups. He possesses a deep understanding of the legal landscape and is adept at navigating the intricacies in both state and federal courts. His dedication to his clients, combined with his strategic thinking and attention to detail, has earned him a reputation as a trusted advisor and advocate. He is committed to delivering exceptional results and helping clients achieve their objectives.
Since 2021, Rodney has served as a State Senator for District 4 in the Indiana General Assembly. After being elected, it was discovered that he was the first Latino Indiana State Senator. He serves alongside Indiana Supreme Court Justice Christopher Goff and numerous state agency and organization leaders as members on the Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council as well as a member of the Indiana Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs. He is also a co-Chair of the Trails Caucus and the Indiana Senate representative member of the Midwest Passenger Rail Commission.
Prior to joining Lewis Kappes, he was the City Attorney for the City of Gary for a decade. In this role, Rodney provided legal advice, negotiated contracts, drafted and reviewed legislation, represented the City and their various boards and commissions in City, State, and Federal court, helped manage legal risks, and mentored and managed staff. He also was a deputy public defender handling post-conviction cases for the Indiana Public Defender’s office for several years after law school.
He graduated from Indiana University’s McKinney School of Law in 2010 and worked for various public agencies in Indianapolis, including the Indiana House of Representatives, the Indiana Department of Education, and the Marion County and Indiana Public Defender’s Office.
Rodney was an AmeriCorps Member, serving as a student coordinator for the 21st Century Scholars Program for Porter County and Gary while attending Indiana University Northwest before transferring to and graduating from Indiana University-Bloomington with Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.
