Biden Expected to Unveil Sweeping Immigration Bill After Taking Oath of Office
President-Elect Joe Biden plans to unveil a sweeping immigration bill on his first day in office, hoping to provide an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million people living in the United States without legal status. We expect this bill to be introduced after Biden takes the oath of office tomorrow. Under the proposed legislation, those living in the United States as of January 1, 2021, without legal status, would have a five-year path to temporary legal status if they pass background checks, pay taxes, and fulfill other basic requirements. This process may be fast-tracked for recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
